No pants? No problem! Break out the Leggings!

Happy Spring, my fellow Andro peeps! If you’re like me and you’ve managed to survive your midterms in one piece as well as the myriad of April Fool’s pranks, then a casual day of loafing about is in order!

So what does an androgynous person wear for a particularly “lazy day” when they don’t feel like putting too much effort into their appearance?

Sure, pants and skirts are great for everyone, but I’m talking full blown I-don’t-give-a-crap-but-still-want-to-look-decent dilemma that we all face. Why not give leggings a try? For this look I’m wearing plain wool black leggings (Full disclosure: I was also wearing black short shorts in the pictures as well. So if you’re feeling shy or that you can’t wear your leggings without some sort of “bottoms” don’t feel bad. It’s okay. I promise.) however, the main thing I would like to stress is don’t do what I did and limit yourself to just plain ol’ leggings! Try patterns! Try different types of materials like velvet, leather, or even metallic leggings that go with pretty much anything.

Not too happy with the “boyfriend” T-shirt that’s in this outfit pic? Try sleeveless oxford shirts or tank tops which work great for anyone regardless of their gender expression. Want to go for a more feminized look? Keep an eye out for summer blouses—like cold shoulder tops or any silky oversized “dress” tops.

Portraits challenge what it means to be LGBT

These are just some of the many ways members of the LGBT community identify themselves in a beautiful photo series from San Francisco-based photographer Sarah Deragon.

Deragon’s “The Identity Project” has taken her around the country as she “seeks to explore the labels we choose to identify with when defining our gender and sexuality.” Her portraits show the amazing diversity and vibance of a queer community that for too long has been defined by outsiders.
